    Doxorubicin HCl Farmacologia

    La doxorubicina es un antineoplásico de la clase de las antraciclinas. Propiedades generales de los medicamentos de esta clase son: la interacción con el ADN en una variedad de maneras diferentes, incluyendo la intercalación (apretando entre los pares de bases), la rotura del ADN y la inhibición de cadena con la enzima topoisomerasa II. La mayoría de estos compuestos han sido aislados de fuentes naturales y los antibióticos. Sin embargo, carecen de la especificidad de los antibióticos antimicrobianos y por lo tanto producir una toxicidad significativa. Las antraciclinas se encuentran entre los fármacos antitumorales más importantes disponibles. La doxorrubicina se utiliza ampliamente para el tratamiento de varios tumores sólidos, mientras que la daunorrubicina y idarubicina se utilizan exclusivamente para el tratamiento de la leucemia. La doxorubicina también puede inhibir la actividad de la polimerasa, afectan a la regulación de la expresión génica, y producir sin daño de los radicales en el ADN. Doxorubicina posee un efecto antitumoral contra un amplio espectro de tumores, ya sea espontánea o injertar. Las antraciclinas son el ciclo celular no específica.

    Patients and their caregivers should be informed of the expected adverse effects of DOXIL® , particularly hand-foot syndrome, stomatitis, and neutropenia and related complications of neutropenic fever, infection, and sepsis.

    Hand-Foot Syndrome (HFS): Patients who experience tingling or burning, redness, flaking, bothersome swelling, small blisters, or small sores on the palms of their hands or soles of their feet (symptoms of Hand-Foot Syndrome) should notify their physician.

    Stomatitis: Patients who experience painful redness, swelling, or sores in the mouth (symptoms of stomatitis) should notify their physician.

    Fever and Neutropenia Patients who develop a fever of 100.5°F or higher should notify their physician.

    Nausea, vomiting, tiredness, weakness, rash, or mild hair loss Patients who develop any of these symptoms should notify their physician.

    Following its administration, DOXIL® may impart a reddish orange color to the urine and other body fluids. This nontoxic reaction is due to the color of the product and will dissipate as the drug is eliminated from the body.
