    Propoxyphène, un agoniste opiacé synthétique, est structurellement similaire à la méthadone. L'effet analgésique de propoxyphène est dû à l'isomère d, le dextropropoxyphène. Il se lie aux récepteurs opiacés et conduit à une diminution de la perception des stimuli douloureux.

    Coma, dépression respiratoire, un collapsus circulatoire et l'oedème pulmonaire. Les crises surviennent plus fréquemment chez les patients avec une intoxication propoxyphène que dans ceux de l'intoxication aux opiacés. DL50 = 230mg/kg (par voie orale chez le rat, Emerson)
