    Mécamylamine est un puissant agent oral antihypertenseurs et bloqueur ganglion, et est une amine secondaire. Mécamylamine est indiqué pour la gestion des formes modérément sévères à sévères d'hypertension essentielle et dans les cas sans complications de l'hypertension maligne. Mécamylamine réduit la pression artérielle chez les personnes à la fois normotendus et hypertendus. Une petite dose orale produit souvent une surface lisse et prévisible réduction de la pression artérielle. Bien que cet effet antihypertenseur est majoritairement orthostatique, la pression artérielle en décubitus est également considérablement réduit. Mécamylamine traverse la hémato-encéphalique et placentaire obstacles.
